Istein cataracts
The flood protection of the Integrated Rhine Programme (IRP) left traces in the local recreation area of the Istein cataracts: a spruce and fir plantation was preserved, uninteresting for biodiversity, but a very popular feature of the scenery. Elsewhere, however, natural areas were destroyed that environmentalists would have preferred to keep.
